Voila Les Baguettes: Head to La Cigale French Markets this weekend for authentic French cheese, wine and more.

Ooh là là Auckland! There are plenty of places to enjoy a taste of France in Auckland, from the home chef's heaven of La Cigale French Market to Auckland's favourite fine dining restaurant, The French Cafe. In between, there's relaxed Ponsonby bistro Frenchie, St Heliers cafe La Fourchette, and Torchon French Creperie in the gorgeous Elliot Stables. Top it off with some divine pastry morsels from Vaniye. Merci beaucoup et amusez-vous bien!

Olivia loved La Cigale French Market

What kind of foodie wouldn't love a farmer's market? Make that a French-style farmer's market, and you'll make one foodie shout for joy. La Cigale French Market is a gourmet market located in Parnell, giving locals a taste of France. Open during weekends, La Cigale opens its doors to customers who are looking to buy fresh produce, breads and pastries, pastas, cheeses and meats, organic and processed goods, among other things. You can also enjoy authentic cuisines and snacks from the other stalls while sitting in the communal tables. The weekend market is designed for one to enjoy the sight and smell of fresh goods and breads over brewing coffee in the morning.

Annie loved The French Cafe

The pinnacle of fine dining, French-style in our fair city. An excellent place to celebrate special occasions with a touch of class and very happy tummies.

Asher loved La Cantine du Torchon

In 2008 I spent a year living in London. During this time, whenever I had a free weekend I would hop on to an overnight bus and spend the weekend in Paris. During this time I gained an appreciation for all things French and when I went to La Cantine du Torchon (now called Frenchie) in Three Lamps I was reminded of where this love came from! The uncomplicated menu has all of the French favourites, I chose the beef bourguignon and my partner in crime had the ratatouille. Both meals got the thumbs up, mine with a little nostalgic kick. Afterwards we had a crepe, which was also on point. The service was authentic, and knowledgeable about the dishes and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. Recommended.

Kylie loved La Fourchette

The perfect little place to take Mum for a Mother's Day indulgence, I love La Fourchette because from the moment you walk through the doors you feel like you've been transported to France. They do the most gorgeous macarons and high tea cocktail combo that will make any mum smile because after the hard work you've put her through, why not treat her to something very, very special.

Definitely not crepé

Working across the road from the Elliot Street Stables is a definite bonus, especially when you have a boss that likes crepés as much as I do.

Many a work breakfast meeting has been held at Torchon, the service is fantastic, the food is to die for and the coffee and cider are delicious. However, I think the most important thing to note is that the staff are all French and they don't laugh at you when you attempt to pronounce things in French.

I first started coming here a year ago when I fell madly in love with one of the waiters - he has since gone back to France but the crepés here are too good to not have, and so, I put on a brave face, sit down and order from a wide range of crepés and galettes to ease the pain.

The rubharb and cream crepe is especially good and the old fave , lemon and sugar is good to....oh, the list goes on. The French cider is divine and definitely worth a try.. and don't get me started on the wines.

Go there. It's a must.

Vaniye, Auckland

The perfect spot for a little fix of luxury! The Parisian-style patisserie serves up Kokako coffee and beautiful teas aside decadent and delicate desserts that look like works of art. My favourite was the chou-chou a beautifully presented profiterole and toffee caramel concoction - but it’s hard to choose just one!
