King of Dumplings: Barilla is beloved by Auckland, but more dumpling delights await on Dominion Road.
There's nothing better than big plates of piping hot dumplings shared with the folks you love. ❤ Aucklanders adore these cheap little pockets of yum, and the heart of this love affair lies in Dominion Road. ❤Barilla and New Flavour are the undisputed King and Queen of Auckland dumpling houses, but if you've never roamed further down the road you're missing out. ❤Eden Noodle is loved by locals, both Spicy House (fast!) and Spicy Joint (spicy!) are worth visiting, and Xian Noodle Bar (futuristic!) does fab dumplings too.

When I heard a friend say that Barilla served the best dumplings in Auckland, I had to check it out and see for myself. I went on a Saturday lunch time, thinking it would probably not be that busy, wow was I wrong. Seating downstairs completely packed and we took the last table upstairs! This place was pumping and as soon as my vege dumplings and fried rice came out I could see why. Delicious and steaming, these dumplings were something to write home about. I also found out you can buy frozen dumplings to take home - amazing. Barilla, I will be back.
Annie loved New Flavour Restaurant
One of my favourite things about dumplings from New Flavour is everyone making their own dipping concoctions out of all the various sauces. New Flavour dumplings are a great way to feed a lot of people for not a lot of money.

Delicious spicy dumplings that comes with a sweet and spicy sauce that I haven't been able to find anywhere else. Their spicy beef noodle is also delicious!!! Choose from mild, medium, hot and extra hot!! The price is also very reasonable :) If looking to take away, recommend to make a phone order before picking it up as they can take a while!

So grateful for this recent discovery. I just love those places that you don’t expect to be nice because it doesn’t have a fancy sign and does not look very aesthetically pleasing on the outside or the inside but ends up being AMAZING…. that encapsulates Spicy House. It’s always pretty busy in here no matter when you go, I saw people waiting for it to open on two occasions. The dumplings melt my heart. Also the egg fried rice is so good. There are so many options I always end up on the verge of tears having to just choose a couple of things. I wish I could have one of each. One day… This place is great to bring the family if you have young kids because the atmosphere is really casual and is always quite loud in there so it doesn’t matter if your kids haven’t taken their Ritalin.
Eleanor loved Xian Noodle Bar - Mt Eden
I cannot believe that this place does not have more loves! Xian is a truly wonderful hidden gem in Auckland. Picture this: A basic-ish premise (but comfortable, clean and definitely a step above the likes of New Flavour), hand pulled exquisite noodles, a wonderful retro-futuristic computerised ordering system (the service is not undermined by this system, the staff are lovely) and pork, oh the pork. The pork is braised to perfection and comes in a number of different (DELICIOUS) dishes. The "Chinese burger" is a steamed bun-come-burger filled with succulent and slightly spicy pulled or braised pork (or cumin lamb or corned beef). This wee "burger" is BURSTING with meat and between two it is an excellent entree. Then you NEED to go for the braised pork noodle dish with Xian special sauce and boy choy. Spicy, vinegary and so, so delicious and so, so CHEAP. Go there now.
Grant loved Spicy Joint
Is exactly that. They specialise in heat. Great service. A menu to try all chilli tolerance levels. Try the pork hock casseroles in spicy soya type sauce. This will have you jiggling in your seat grappling for a sweet drink or hallucinating swimming pools. If spicy isn't your buzz they have mild or non chilli dishes or order a lemonade.
