Superhero Weekend: Live it up with Dad this weekend at one of the great local events in Auckland.

Spring is here and the city is popping to the beat of the fresh, new season. It's also the weekend to show Dad he's your super hero by attending a local event for Father's Day. If you’re looking for a decent dose of culture and a good old-fashioned party, Q Theatre are celebrating their fifth birthday. Or if you’re a chocolate and coffee lover, there’s a festival with your name on it taking place at The Cloud. And for local wine drinkers, there’s a homage to everything pinot with a whole lotta music throwing in. Plus if you have a local event that rocks your world this weekend, share a comment below or a recommendation so other locals can discover it too. Here’s five local events to make the first weekend of spring and Father's Day great.

Have A Party: Q Theatre’s Birthday Party
It’s a much-loved theatre for Auckland locals and on Friday September 2, Q Theatre is celebrating its fifth birthday party with a big bash.  It'll be a night of revelry, music, dancing and fun, featuring PE Class (with performances by lady DJs Edu-Kate & Fizz-Cal), the Superhero Second Line band (pictured), DJ Ray Nugget, and the performing prowess of Dynamotion. The fun kicks off from 7 pm, but the bar will be open beforehand for those all important after-work Friday drinks. There'll be a birthday toast at 7:30 pm and we'll be baking a really big cake. There is no door charge and a cash bar will run through the night. For more info head here.

Family Freebie: Father's Day Picnic and BBQ at Ambury Farm
Take Dad out for a family picnic at one of Auckland's most picturesque regional parks, Ambury Farm. There's a free event taking place on Father's Day - Sunday September 4 - from 11am to 4pm. There's bouncy castles for the kids, BBQ and food and drink plus live music. For more info, head here

You’ll find drinking chocolate, cooking chocolate, handmade truffles, cupcakes, sauces, gateaux, chocolate dipped fruit, chocolate bars and many other temptations.
