Pop Up Globe: Have greatness thrust upon you as an audience member in this replica of Shakespeare's Globe theatre.

All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players. In honour of Mr Shakespeare and Auckland's amazing Pop Up Globe, let's party like it's 1599. To get the look, head to First Scene or check out the costumes and props at the historic Playhouse Theatre. To get the books, explore the Hard to Find book store. Imbibe an ale at The Shakespeare and fuel up with a Full English at Triniti of Silver. If it all gets too much, head out of the city to the Shakespear Regional Park, or get thee to a nunnery...

Annabel loved Pop Up Globe

It's 400 years since Shakespeare died, but we can finally see his works performed in the space they were written for - and I can't wait! The Pop Up Globe (they say pop-up, I say four months painstaking construction work) is the world's first full-scale reconstruction of Shakespeare’s second Globe theatre, which was built on the ruins of the first Globe in 1614. They say you'll never be seated more than 15 metres of the action on stage, even though it's a three-story building, because the audience of up to 900 will completely surround the stage, which is over 100sqm. Book me in!

Dress Up Mania!

I love to dress up, so whenever I'm invited to a costume party little shivers of glee run through my spine. First Scene is normally the first place I'll go to. There's so much to choose from and the staff is so nice especially the owner guy - he's awesome! He's normally busy but if you can grab him especially if you're stuck on costume ideas he'll have you sorted in a jiffy. Best costume he found me was a young sexy version of Cruella Deville for Halloween and a cute dress to play Alice in Wonderland. They have something for everyone.

Annie loved Playhouse Theatre Glen Eden

A staple in community theatre. Walking into this lovely Art Deco style building always feels a bit fancy. Great performances can be seen in this versatile space. They had me at orchestra pit!

Megan loved Hard to Find Books

Terrific place to go and relax and hide amongst the books to find a few wee gems. I love the creaky floors and little nooks and crannies throughout this shop. A must see. Love it!

Rory loved The Shakespeare

The Shakespeare is one of Auckland's oldest pubs, and has been around on the corner of Wyndham and Albert Streets for over 100 years. As with a lot of ye olde pubs back in the mother country, the Shakespeare makes its own beer and offers rooms to rent at reasonable prices. This is a great place to come to catch the rugby - especially when it's one of the British sides playing. Be warned - it can get busy!

Great food, and great service too.

Came here for lunch the other day. I was very pleased with my meal, with some really delicious sausages, bacon, eggs and mushrooms. Great coffee too - they offer an option with cream for low carb/primal eaters :)

Shakespear Regional Park, Auckland

Just 50km north of Auckland's CBD lies this gorgeous, pest-free regional park that has not one but THREE fantastic swimming beaches, meaning it's well worth a summer day trip from the city. Te Haruhi Bay is a sandy strip of coastline that melts slowly into gentle, sedate waters while the better-known Army Bay is at the park entrance. Lesser known Okoromai Bay is a tidal beach, which is more ideal for hunting and gathering cockles than for swimming. Incredibly popular during public holidays, it pays to arrive at Shakespear Regional Park early if you want to secure the family a top beach spot. However, if you just want to fang up in the car for a satisfying swim then you can't go past this park as one of the best swimming spots in the greater Auckland region.
