Late Summer Lovin': Pop the perfect proposal by the water this February 29 - or anytime!
Get on one knee, girl! ❤ Thanks to St Patrick in 5th century Ireland, February 29 is traditionally a day for women to pop the question. ❤ You can't beat a sea view for serious romance: we love Musick Point, North Head at sunset and Little Shoal Bay by night – or get on the water in a kayak or boat charter. ❤ Loved-up locals also embrace the Manukau Heads Lighthouse, the Karekare waterfall and the Kaipara Sculpture Gardens. ❤ Pack a picnic and put a ring on it.
Annabel loved Manukau Heads Lighthouse
With beautiful views along the Awhitu Peninsula as you drive in, the historic Makukau Heads Lighthouse is a peaceful spot to visit when you need to clear your head. The views are spectacular - looking south you can see for miles across the Tasman, and to the north are the Waitakere Ranges.
Annabel loved Musick Point Reserve
There's a stairway down to a little rock on the water at the tip of the Bucklands Beach Peninsula. It's a great spot with stunning harbour views and usually it's completely private and peaceful.
Hariz loved North Head
Some of the best views of Auckland is simply right on top of this spectacular mountain.
Lopa loved Little Shoal Bay
Shoal Bay has great views of the bridge and the city. There is a playground for the kids to enjoy and great place to have a picnic, swim and just relax.
Rebecca loved Ferg's Kayaks
During the summer in Auckland, I love getting out on the water as much as possible. Kayaking is a surprisingly vigorous workout and you get to enjoy the sun, the ocean and great company at the same time. You won’t even realize what a good workout you’ve gotten until you can’t lift your arms the next day! Ferg’s Kayaks do kayak rentals and lessons, and you can also sign up for excursions like the Rangitoto Adventure, which involves a kayak trip to Rangitoto followed by a hike and picnic lunch.
Suzanne loved Riko Boat Charters
We had an overnight trip out into the Auckland Harbour - it was so much fun! Over and above our expectations; getting out on the harbour on a beautiful evening, getting behind the wheel, a bit of fishing on the side, cooking up a relaxed BBQ dinner, a late night swim and a good cosy nights sleep - not to mention waking up to a beautiful sunrise! Bryan is really relaxed but takes incredibly good care of you. A great experience.
Ricci loved Karekare Beach
Nothing beats a Saturday drive to Karekare beach. This is an essential trip to take if visiting Auckland. This beach is NZ to a tee. Big rolling black sand dunes, rugged terrain and ferocious seas. I prefer to walk on the beach here rather than swim, but there are life guards on duty in the summer so you can swim between the flags if you dare. When visiting Karekare beach next, be sure to check out the majestic waterfalls. Its just a short bush walk to get there which in itself is beautiful.
Kaipara Coast Sculpture Gardens
This is one of the best day trips I've ever done in Auckland because these gardens are just so tranquil and beautiful. It takes about 40 minutes to get out to the Kaipara Coast and you head to the local plant centre to find the start of the sculpture trail. Once there, you walk through beautiful native forest, meander along the banks of streams and eventually stumble upon waterfalls. Plus I love the surprises that come with the 50 exhibited sculptures created by some of New Zealand's most talented artists. TIP: Wear good shoes and make sure you are a bit fit because the fitter you are the more you'll enjoy the 30-minute walk. This place is paradise.
